1. My tree is the Witch Hazel.
2. It's scientific name is Hamamelis virginiana L.
3. Soil mites and green stink bugs infect this tree.
4. Birds, beavers, white-tailed deer, chipmunks, squirrels, and cottontails feed off the seeds.
5. The Witch Hazel tree is related to the Winter Hazel and American Witch Hazel.
6. This tree is used for medicinal purposes like treating bruises on the skin. It is also commonly used as ornamental trees in peoples yards.
7. The Witch Hazel is a deciduous tree with a short trunk, crooked branches, thin bark, and shallow roots. When the tree is completely matured it stands from 15 to 25 feet tall.

Observations
Iodine
38.4g yesterday to 35.4g today.
The iodine went into the starch sac causing it to turn purplish black.
Salt
.09oz yesterday to .06oz today.
the salt dried out the potato causing it to lose water.
Fresh
.09oz yesterday 11oz today.
nothing happened to this potato.
2. The starch sac changed color and weighs less because the iodine moved into the sac making the sac turn to a purplish black color.
The salt water potato weighs less because the salt dried out the potato making it lose water. The water went out of the potato.
The fresh water potatomore because the potato absorbed the water. The water went into the potato.
3. The potato experiment shows diffusion while the iodine experiment shows osmosis.
Day One with Iodine:
Day Two with Iodine:

DNA Replicaiton Project
step 1: DNA helicase occurs and DNA unwinds.
step 2: hydrogen bonds are broken and the bases separate.
step 3: Strand I gets a new strand II and strand II gets a new strand I.
step 4: The hydrogen bonds reform and DNA winds back up.
Telomeres are crucial to the life of the cell and keep chromosomes in the cell from becoming attached to each other.
okazaki fragments is when DNA polymerase begins to synthesize a section of a complementary strand.
dna ligase links together two DNA strands.
telomerase is an enzyme that helps DNA sequences repeat.
cancer in cell structure produces telomerase
transplanted cells helps with gene therapy.
cloning is done to see what is wrong with the replications.
aging - cells do not age when in culture.
